At the end of the story, however, it becomes clear that Elie sees himself as fragile and almost non-human. Along with his family, the main character is captured and forced to go to a concentration camp, where different traumatic events happen. As soon as the protagonist enters the camp, he is separated from his mother and sister. Meanwhile, as he continues to live in the camp, he is starving and tries to gain support from his father. However, this connection was never meant to last as they were separated, and the father later died as well. There is no doubt that such events can break the spirit of the young man, as at the end of the book he admits that he does not even feel like a human. Nevertheless, since this book is the first one of the trilogy, there is hope that the main character can regain his strength again.


In conclusion, it would appear that even the author considers himself to be a weaker person after all these hardships he had to go through. this book was tragic story that will never leave my mind. There were a lot of deaths, and sadness because of the separation that took place at the at the concentration camps. As German concentration camps across Europe are being taken over by American forces, the death counts are high, especially for the Jew population. American soldiers are finding over 20, alive men at concentration camp Buchenwald alone, but with an estimated 50, plus dead. The world is marveling at how such a tragedy went in silence, and millions were killed in concentration, labor, and exterminations camps. The focus today is on one particular survivor, Elie Wiesel.


Elie Wiesel real name Eliezer , was born and raised in Sighet, Transylvania, a town mostly populated by optimistic Jews. Eliezer goes through much struggle with himself as the book progresses. The fact that effacing himself from the world seems pleasant shows how low Eliezer has sunk, and he struggles to have faith in himself. He begins losing hope in one of his own family members. Our teenager named Eliezer grew up in the small community of Sighet, located in Hungarian Transylvania. At the beginning of the war Eliezer was dedicated and absolute in his belief of God, but throughout the events of World War II his faith slowly starts to wither away. Eliezer's main conflict that governs the story would be sustaining his belief in God. This becomes especially hard throughout the book, as he has to face more and more challenging issues. One point in the story that Eliezer questions his faith in God is when they are forced to watch the hanging of other prisoners, one time the Gestapo even hangs and kills a small child for being associated with the rebels. It seems that during this point the prisoners start to react for means of survival only, family members were turning on each other.


The prisoners turn cold hearted and cruel towards each other because now their only concern is survival. Because of the horrific events in the concentration camp and the ever-present risk of death does Eliezer begin to lose his faith in humanity and his God. Eliezer has a tough time understanding how the world and the Gestapo can be capable of this much fury. Because his teachings tell him that God is good, and since God is everywhere the world therefore must be good. Eliezer has a hard time watching the other families interact because they no longer share a special bond of love but instead share the idea of selfishness.


More than once Eliezer experiences the rupture of the bond a family shares between both the father and son.
