This study discusses the phenomenon behind black women and their hairstyles and explains that their choice in hairstyle is not solely reliant on societal expectations, but also equally of their own personality, self-esteem, and time. During these years black entrepreneurs, journalists, and activists strove to promote black beauty ideals, practices, and products. They are deemed as exotic and highly sexual because of the protruding nature and curvaceous shape of their hips, butts, and breast.
